Ok, I did a fresh install of 7.4-1, no updates or anything, added the 8.2.2
repo and did apt-get update && apt dist-upgrade. Rebooted and it came right
up. Note this is now on 8.2.4/faa83925c9641325 with Linux 6.8.12-1-pve
(2024-08-05T16:17Z), which is newer than the 8.2.2 iso.
I'm booting EFI and it's working now.
I did try the proxmox backup server 3.1 iso and that seemed to install fine,
so this is something unique to the 8.x ISO's and certainly looks to be a bug.
Workaround seems to be install 7.4-1 and upgrade to 8.2.x in place.
