[PVE-User] OS Error after upgrade to 7.1

Hello,

I´m currently upgrading my 7-node Cluster, 1 node without problems, 2 
nodes had renamed NICs to be corrected,

but the last Node stucks at boot with this message: "mpt2sas_cm0: 
overiding NVDATA EEDPTagMode setting"

Anybody had this error before?

Yes, unrelated to Proxmox. But the SAS controller works fine even with this message.

Do you have issues accessing your storage?

Can you reboot with the previous kernel and check the firmware of the controller?

dmesg | grep mpt | grep -i fw

should show the firmware version.

Hello,


Proxmox is starting again after upgrading the firmware of the 9211-8i 
controllers...

And yes it did boot with the old Kernel, so the Firmware of the 
controllers was incompatible with thie new Kernel.

Hello Stefan,

I had the old Firmware (from2015?) 000..26 - the ri version not the it 
version - this did not work on the 5.13 Kernel - stuck at boot and 
server rebooting after a while

the newest version i found was from 2016 000..27 , which works, it is 
hard to find any firmwares as the vendor does not supply it anymore, 
there are descriptions howto update and links to the firmware, but the 
links are dead...

Has to be updated in efi shell from usb drive

Would you mind to share the old and new firmware versions of your controller and your kernel version?

It might help other PVE users to avoid the problem you have run into.

If you go to https://www.broadcom.com/support/download-search and then:

Product Group -> Legacy Products (all the way down)
Product Family -> Legacy Host Bus Adapters
Product Name -> SAS 9211-8i Host Bus Adapter
=> Search

you will find all firmware versions and related tools, docs, etc. that Broadcom shares.

The latest available firmware is 20.00.07.00 dated 2016-04-04.
