Hi all,

I'm trying to convert a Debian 10.10 LXC container running under PVE
6.2-6 into ESXi 7.0.2 VM.

I'm using VMware vCenter Converted Standalone 6.2.0 from May 2018
(latest available).

Upon establishing SSH connection to the container I get:

"Unable to detect disks or volumes on the source machine.
Make sure that the source is a supported Linux distribution."

No such errors when I try the same thing against a bare metal Debian
10.13 box.

Has anybody had any success with this tool?

Is there a better way and any hopes for not having to rebuild containers
manually from scratch as VMs?

Regards,
Adam

Yeah, that won't work - LXC containers are fundamentally different to VM's

Hello,

I would suggest to boot your VMWARE VM with rescue CD or FAI CD

For TEST environment:
1. partition VM for your needs
2. rsync from your LXC
3. Create /etc/fstab
3. Install kernel, bootloader in your chroot
4. reboot

For PROD environment it can be a little bit complicated.
Contact me offlist for an offer.

Best Regards,
Juri Grabowski
