Subject: [PATCH pve-docs] installation: zfs: hdsize applies to all disks of the pool
Date: Fri, 16 Oct 2026 09:58:08 +0200 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261016075808.1393338-1-dietmar@proxmox.com> (raw)
Since pve-installer commit 8269582 ("zfs: assume that all devices are
boot devices"), the installer partitions every disk of a ZFS setup as a
boot disk and limits each of them to hdsize, at every RAID level. The
restriction to the first disk or mirror of a RAID0, RAID1 or RAID10
setup predates that change.

Defines the total hard disk size to be used. This is useful to save free space
on the hard disk(s) for further partitioning (for example to create a
-swap-partition). `hdsize` is only honored for bootable disks, that is only the
-first disk or mirror for RAID0, RAID1 or RAID10, and all disks in RAID-Z[123].
